Ok, having taken a quick look at the source code, one of the most likely reasons for the red error box saying you can’t post a topic or reply is if the content matches one or more ‘blacklist’ words. Given these are matched on a regular expression there is a chance words are accidentally triggering a blacklist block.May 12, 2013 at 20:44 #2804
There was a blacklist for post comments covering spam words like Nike, viagra, that sort of thing and maybe bbPress was also accessing it for the forum. Anyway, I’ve turned it off completely so we’ll see if that helps (now that forum posters have to be registered users spam is not a big problem, as you may have noticed). Thanks for the prompt.
There was also a limit on 1 link per post – I’ve increased that to 10.
To answer an earlier question – AFAIK there is no limit on the length of a post, but there is a timeout (10 seconds) before you can post again.May 12, 2013 at 21:13 #2809
That seems to be much better 🙂May 13, 2013 at 19:58 #2855
Trevor, posting in this thread since it seems most appropriate. Is there any chance you could change the size of the second image at the top of forums so I don’t have to scroll down so far to get to the meat?
Thanks. Nick.May 13, 2013 at 22:12 #2864
I’ve moved the picture below the ‘meat’ – hopefully that fixes it.
What do people use most? I could put the Top 15 Topics above the Forum Index if that’s actually what people use most (it’s where I go first, for example).May 14, 2013 at 15:37 #2887
Hi Trevor – that’s much better – thanks!
I’ve started looking at the last 5 posts on the right to determine where I go next. I agree with others that this forum is not as intuitive to use as others – maybe because it work slightly differently form the main forums out there. If you’re going to change the system, it would probably make sense to do it sooner rather than later.
Thanks. Nick.July 2, 2013 at 21:27 #3750
I’ve been getting an increasing number of fake user registrations (spam users) on this forum – about 20 a day now. I’ve installed a plugin that should fix this. If you see any new issues with logging in or posting, please let me know (use the email address on the About page if you can’t post).July 17, 2013 at 23:35 #3989
I think the first issues from the new plugin have appeared – I think it has accidentally deleted some users (e.g. deejay and farblue). I think it may be overreacting to multiple registrations or password requests or similar behaviour. I’ve turned off the default setting which deletes the user and hopefully I will now get a chance to intervene before it does anything drastic again.
Sorry guys!July 18, 2013 at 09:35 #3997
Yeah, my account got deleted for the second time so I’ve re-registered again. I notice all our old posts have been marked ‘anonymous’.
I also noted when trying to sign up again that both my home and work email addresses were rejected but my old apple ‘me.com’ one was allowed.
I can’t think why either my work (names.co.uk) or home (far-blue.co.uk) emails were rejected as they are both setup to the highest standards.July 18, 2013 at 23:03 #4005
I don’t know either – but it’s possible a spammer used those addresses and they have been banned through no fault of yours.
