I’ve now done around 2k in my Zoe (including a 400 mile trip to Bath last weekend!). I’ve noticed a creaking/clicking noise coming from the back of the car. I’m not sure if its the back seats or boot but it happens over bumps and when the car is cornering its like a single click or creak and then its done until the next bump.
Has anyone had anything like this and if so what was it?
Another thing I’ve noticed. The roads in St Albans aren’t the greatest of quality. When going over things like speedhumps or any bit of pock marked road as anything above crawling speed the suspension noise is fairly loud and there is what sounds like a vibration that is out of sync with the suspension travel. Almost like something fairly hefty is being rattled somewhere. Seems worse when you hit something with the n/s wheel than o/s but that could just be my imagination.
Normally I’d assume this is normal but considering some of the QA issues I’ve seen on my own car and others I’m beginning to wonder…
Anyone got a Zoe in or around St Albans who wants to compare? 🙂

How very interesting, the first noise you describe is the exact same noise I have. It’s currently baffling my dealer and Renault Tech. They have another person with the same problem, but it’s much more prominent and they are currently using that car as a guinea pig rather than they were with mine. Once they have sorted the other car they are going to fix mine.
They couldn’t trace the noise initially, but then thought it was hinges, but it wasn’t. By a fluke of luck I found it myself one evening. The noise is actually coming from the left hand side of the rear spoiler and transmitting into the car. On mine if I open the tailgate about half way then move it up and down quickly over a distance of about 6 inches I can replicate the noise and that’s where it seems to be coming from. It was just my luck that when I took it to the dealer once I discovered it the noise stopped!!! This is why they are now experimenting on the other Zoe that has the noise all the time. Having said that mine is all the time now, but only on certain road surfaces/angles/dips.
One of the first jobs they did on mine was to replace the tailgate catch as that made a low speed rattling noise which I cured by putting black tape on the loop of the catch. They said it’s a very common problem on Clio’s/Zoe and have fitted modified catch and that noise is gone.
I too have the other noise, but only occasionally when I go over cobbled speed bumps. It sounds to be like a cooling pipe or something like that just touching something. I have not investigated any further as it occurs so irregularly. I think where the Zoe is so quiet you definitely hear more suspension noise and it is quite clonky in itself.
Have to say my dealer has been excellent and they agree it’s totally unacceptable and are determined to sort it for me.October 16, 2015 at 12:00 #23720
Post on that subject from a while agoOctober 16, 2015 at 12:17 #23721
I put the last post on their, but it then went quiet.
I wasn’t going to post about it again untill I had my fix, but as soon as I saw this post I had to post my findings 🙂 My car has been stripped of its back seats, rear quarter trims and rear wiper motor trim and it still couldnt be found.
Its only since I informed them that I had found the location of the noise and could replicate it that they have been able to do some more investigation.October 16, 2015 at 12:18 #23722
Ugh can’t edit, there and not their 🙁October 16, 2015 at 12:22 #23723
I’ve just spent 5 minutes rapidly moving the tailgate up and down and I do indeed have a noise coming from the left hand side of the spoiler. I wonder if that’s it.
Mo- Thanks, I’ll take a look.October 16, 2015 at 12:23 #23724
harters – I guess they stripped everything out thinking the noise was coming from the inside of the car! I would never have thought to look outside if you had not mentioned it.October 16, 2015 at 13:39 #23725
Sounds like you have the exact same issue as mine then. I find if I have the tailgate at about the halfway point then open and close it through about 6 inches or so standing to the left side I can definately hear the sound coming from the spoiler area. I did ask them if they could remove it to try and isolate the problem but as it wasn’t doing it when I took it down they couldn’t.
It sounds like a clip of sorts clicking against metal. Maybe something that holds wires for the high level brake light.
I haven’t lost hope though, I still love ZoeOctober 16, 2015 at 14:33 #23727
I have to make the trek up to Morecambe for my dealer so I’m trying to narrow everything down as it make it as straight forward as possible.
I love my Zoe too!October 16, 2015 at 15:11 #23728
Mine creaks too!
As my other car’s a Defender, relatively speaking, its not much of an issue and not worried about it.
But good to know what the problem is so when the car goes in for its service the Dealer can sort it.
