Of course, since then the long-awaited Model S has appeared – to rave reviews – and deliveries to customers are underway:

Disclosure: I should probably point out that I have some shares in Tesla. I’m not big into investments – but I’m really keen for Tesla to succeed and I’ve followed their progress for some time. In the summer I decided I’d take the plunge and buy some shares – the first shares I’ve ever bought.

Hi Trevor, great site. Bet you’re pleased you bought TSLA stock with the jump in the last few days!

Yes indeed – I bought at about $27 and today they’re $76! I wish I’d bought more, I don’t feel I bought enough to make it worthwhile selling any at the moment (as I may never get the chance to buy any more at a price I can afford).

I am also considering buying shares in Solar City (SCTY), one of Elon Musk’s other ventures. They launched in December at about $12 and they’re now about $29 – but I think I may have missed the boat. If you don’t know them, their specialty is leasing solar panels – basically a homeowner gets them on their house for ‘free’ – the homeowner gets the electricty but the company gets any feed in tariff. It’s a money making formula that I can see spreading worldwide.

Solar City also, naturally, provide the solar systems for the Tesla superchargers. Mr Musk is not a stupid guy.

Another sexy ad featuring the Model S (as tweeted by Robert Llewellyn) – this time selling wheel rims:

As Appmacguy posted, Tesla last night demonstrated battery swapping on the Model S – here’s the official video:

To see the battery swap details better, see the link Appmacguy posted.

Hopefully it works out better for Tesla than it did for Better Place. In theory it should, since Better Place were dependant on others producing compatible cars, which didn’t really work out for them.

I would think that it might be more appealing if they dropped the need to go back for your battery pack to avoid an extra cost. It’ll be interesting to see what the take-up is.

Looking forward to seeing how the Model X is received – I’d love one of those!

A friend has just got back from a holiday in San Francisco. He saw loads of examples of the Model S:

though it certainly helped being close to the factory:
