The Renault ZOE is unusual amongst electric cars in that it doesn’t come with a 13 Amp home charge lead as standard, a so-called ‘granny cable’. There

January 25, 2016 at 07:26 #26085Hmmmm, good luck dealing with Renault warranty when you get your first BCI using that.
January 25, 2016 at 22:01 #26119ha ha ha; why? The same hardware is used in most if not all chargers ala Chargemaster / Wallpod / POD Point
January 26, 2016 at 11:51 #26127I did my own too, an ultra-compact build for emergency use only. http://canze.fisch.lu/granny-charging/ Two Dutch drivers borrowed it for either long trips or temporary relocation (no closeby charger available).
On a side note: I find it bizarre (though maybe it is a UK thing, inter-cultural differences maybe subtle and non-obvious) to be sarcastically warned or “be-feared” as I like to call it against what Renault or testing agencies (called MOT in the UK right?) may find of things like this. I have had comments like this about widening a hole a few mm for a cable in totally covered plastic part of the car, installing xenon lamps and no doubt will get one or two about my emergency charger too. It’s my car and I certainly know what I am doing, and if I am not, well, it is my problem. Maybe it’s just intended as a fair warning but it certainly didn’t come across that way.
January 26, 2016 at 13:06 #26128@yoh-there – I know what you mean. I had the following comment posted last year on this forum about my own DIY EVSE cable (Mainpine):
I think a home made evse lead is both dangerous and stupid.
This sort of comment is made by people who are afraid to undertake such a project themselves, so consider that anyone who does, must be ‘stupid’.
January 26, 2016 at 15:59 #26142The official renault cable isn’t much more. Is there any benefit of this one over that?
January 26, 2016 at 17:22 #26151AFAIK the official cable ensures the neutral line is indeed connected to N, as a household plug can be plugged in both ways (at least in most countries). That requires 4 relays though and I didn’t have room for that. The home builds require you to plug in “right”, see my video.
