count me in for ‘jailbroken’ zoe!!!!

also agree with the comments of samsam

think a joint letter or approach is required by us (i.e. own the zoe outright but leasing the battery)

Maybe the software in the ‘batteries included’ car has the code to disable the battery removed.

I suppose it won’t be long before we see ‘Jail broken’ or ‘rooted’ Zoes with the firmware hacked to up the performance.

I think the competitions commission would have something to say about it. I agree if they own the battery and you don’t pay the lease they should switch it off. If you choose to swap battery suppliers and you own the car then I don’t think renault would have a leg to stand on. Especially if the car is out of warranty.

Won’t it be great when other battery suppliers are chasing after zoe owners business. The day when we can choose who supplies our battery will be great. I would quite like a ‘powered by Tesla’ sticker on the back.

I’m waiting for tesla to make a battery for the zoe at half the cost then removing the renault one at the end of the lease and telling them to come and collect it.

Why would you want to spend £5k+ on battery’s that if they fail in 24 months you will have to fix yourself? and most people change there cars after 3-4 years anyway. Seems crazy.. You have house insurance, some people take out boiler service cover etc, its a far better option to have them leased even at 10k a year @ £63 a month over 5 years is only £3780 still cheaper than buying them, Then you have the hassle of selling a car with maybe duff batteries in 5 years where you haven’t had them fixed?

I have said before i own a Mokka at present and in two years i lost £10k nearly the new ZOE with battery lease over 4 years is what i lost in 2 years with the mokka no brainer in my eyes..

I heard that new Zoe’s come with the option of buying the batteries instead of leasing them.

So I contacted good ol’ Customer Services to see if I could transfer from leasing either now or at the end of my lease agreement and, guess what?

Here is the (very polite) reply I received:

“I can confirm changes have recently been made which allow customer to have the option of purchasing or leasing the battery. I have spoken to our Z.E team who have confirmed the decision whether to buy or lease has to be made at the point the vehicle us built in order to ensure all relevant systems record the correct information. This means it is not possible to move between two purchase methods once the ZOE is built as a buy/lease vehicle cannot be bought as a full purchase model. They have also confirmed it is not possible to move to battery purchase, even after the end of your lease.

I understand this is not the response you were hoping for and I apologise for any disappointment caused.”

(Spelling mistakes, etc. Renault’s not mine!)

Does anyone have any views? Should we get a petition together of those who might like, at least, have the option down the road.

That offer has no details and the “More about this offer” link goes to a page with completely different deals 🙁

It could be with the 750mi/quarter battery rental option; in which case it’s not really any better (we’re paying £143/month + £25/mo battery for that)..

My guess is that the new engine won’t be available till after 1st April; as there are lots of offers ending then (and the PiCG changes). I suspect it’ll work out the same price; and also suspect the discounts offered by dealers/Renault will come down a little, so they profit from the PiCG increase a little, rather than us!

As has also been noted in a couple of other threads, further details of the new engine have finally come out today. Here’s the press release: http://media.renault.com/download/media/specialfile/66814_1_5.aspx

Not much new that wasn’t already rumoured, so about 15% extra range (130 miles theoretical becomes 149 miles, so I’m guessing 65 miles worst case/coldest range might become about 75 miles), no 44kW charging, which is as expected from the earlier rumours.

It seems like Renault are listening to those who have strongly expressed that they’d rather have the rapid charge than the extra range, and they’re offering both the old engine and the new R240 engine simultaneously, so you can choose. I think that’s a wise move. Just a shame they couldn’t have done best of both. I can understand why some will fall on the side of the fence that prefers the rapid charge option, but personally I’m falling on the side of the fence that would value the extra range, so I’m feeling glad I’ve held off for a while.

But I still can’t see any mention of…
    – When the new engine will be available to order? Maybe I’ll enjoy my MX-5 for one last summer before they’re out!
    – Whether there’s a price difference for the R240 engine? I have spotted a new, better PCP deal has appeared today £174/month including battery, so looks like prices are continuing to fall. The ‘more info’ link doesn’t tell you any more about that deal, so it might be low mileage allowance, only an Expression trim, or some other compromise to get it to that price. I think it’s pretty unlikely it will be the R240 engine offered yet.

I guess they’re both questions to ask the dealer.

I’m sure it’s at least a month after delivery. Think I got mine the end of Jan, I chose 1st of the month for my repayment date so first payment fell 1st march. The first payment was higher as it included a £149 finance facility fee. The Battery higher also came out separately on the same day, to the same company. Mine never came with a safety pack or delivery fee as it was an ex-demo. However, my husband bought a new car from Renault at the same time and his delivery charge was £495.83.
