Dan’s point is a good one about the time needed to refill from your “jerry can” battery, although your idea (if it works!) is just for an emergency 2kWh top up to get you out of a sticky situation, right? In which case you’re just topping up 10% of your 22kWh capacity, so I think in theory you’re talking about taking about an hour to get yourself back on the road with enough range to make it to a proper charger (like a jerry can giving you enough fuel to get to a petrol station).
Reflecting on what’s been said, it does sound like a rather convoluted way of getting an extra 2kWh for contingency.
Just out of interest, has anyone on here ever run their battery down to zero range? Does it hold on to a little reserve range, or does it refuse to go another inch? I don’t suppose anyone is brave enough to try!
Why not wait and get a Zoe 2? The new battery and engine offering is expected to get at least an extra 10% range, if not more (fingers crossed for the Geneva Motor Show… Find out later this week!) You could think of it as having your extra contingency battery “built in” 🙂

If it takes 10 hours to charge via a 3-pin cable; and 20-30 mins from a Rapid Charger, you’d probably be better calling Renault Assistance and being towed to a charger rather than charging at that rate!
If your battery is rented, you get Renault Assistance; and it includes recovery to a charger if you find yourself out of juice!

I don’t mind a bit of pedantry, I blame it all on autocomplete/autocorrect on my windows tablet though.
Today I received my ZOE brochure in the post, sure enough plenty of addons but not seat covers listed now, shame that would have suited me nicely.
I have to say initially I was very worried about the idea of renting the battery, but now thinking about it if the car met my needs, and continued to do so i’d happily rent safe in the knowledge the battery is covered.
When i was looking a few weeks ago there seemed to be loads of ZOEs for sale locally, lot less now. I’m not in any major hurry, although with the possibility of a new model hitting the market soonish I’d be happy to pick up the MK1 model for a snip.

Low 7’s was the answer. 1 Internet bid then his. He’s got the free charge point too. He had to sign the battery documents at the auction house before the car was released.

It’s a battery only in the same sense that a hydrogen fuel cell is a battery. You feed it a fuel (in this case aluminium) and it goes. You then have to go buy more aluminium plates to fill it up. A complete dead end as far as I’m concerned, and I doubt that Renault has anything to do with it.

I was not wanting to modify the car in any way. The battery would be attached to my power inverter and I would stop the car and use that to charge with the EVSE cable.
March 2, 2015 at 20:07 #13281But what would happen if I called them in month 11 and said I needed to go from 7,500 to 9,000? If they just increased the payment from £50 to £57, then I would’ve underpaid for those 12 months (I should’ve paid £57×12, but actually paid £7/month less for 11 months of the year)!
I’ve asked for a copy of the Battery Hire terms from my dealer; but he’s not sure where to get them 🙁 Seems like the sort of thing we should be able to easily get prior to when we go to sign everything!
March 2, 2015 at 19:31 #13277They explained it to me that if we go over or think we will go over the 750 miles a quarter (£25 per month option) you can upgrade to the next battery band – that would be £50 per month for 7,500 miles P.A.
I only got details on the 750 miles per quarter option. You get an invoice after the end of the quarter if you have exceeded the 750 miles. You will get an advice note and then on the 4th direct debit (the one after three consecutive quarter payments) they will take the extra. Hence why it’s a quarterly set up. I guess on the yearly option you would get an advice note at the end of 12 months ?
You can increase battery band any time you want but you can only decrease once in a 12 month period. I asked why and was told to stop people jumping bands month to month.

Yes forgot to mention that.
But as noted on another thread – no worries if you go over this. Call Renault Finance and increase the battery hire. Otherwise you will get an invoice charging you 0.30p per mile over the 750 miles per quarter. They charge it with the next direct debit payment.

£25 battery hire per month so 3,000 miles P.A
BTW, bear in mind it’s 750/quarter, not 3k/year. This is quite explicit in the manual, so I expect they’ll still charge you extra if you do 800 in one quarter and 700 the next 🙁
