and what will the effect be of leaving a battery discharged?
From the Zoe owner’s Handbook page 1.11
When the vehicle is parked for more than three months with near zero charge, charging the battery can become impossible.
They are going to ruin two battery packs.
If the dealer cared at all, they would have found the £500 or so it would cost them to install a ZCW Type-2 charging station.
If someone at Renault UK is paying attention to reports coming from customer service they will get those two cars away from Lookers before the battery packs are ruined.
I have read there are several other Renault dealers with cars but no charging stations. I don’t know how many others have allowed their cars to get to a state where the packs will be damaged.

Hopefully it works out better for Tesla than it did for Better Place. In theory it should, since Better Place were dependant on others producing compatible cars, which didn’t really work out for them.
I would think that it might be more appealing if they dropped the need to go back for your battery pack to avoid an extra cost. It’ll be interesting to see what the take-up is.
Looking forward to seeing how the Model X is received – I’d love one of those!
I’m looking into buying the ZOE Zen with the reverse camera option. And since my dealer in Denmark has told me that it might be faster to buy in Germany (once they can solve the battery rental issue for Sweden) I was looking at the German website.
I noticed that the reverse camera option is very different from different countries:
Denmark – free option for the ZEN
Germany – 300Euro
UK – 411Euro
Still the price in Germany is about 1000Euro cheaper since I can remove the pricey bad (3.7kW) wallbox. In Germany the included wallbox adds 1100Euro, but in Sweden I can buy a 11kW wallbox for 525Euro, thus 3x faster and 2x cheaper.
How much is the reverse camera in your country?
I still have not received my official mail from Renault Denmark, but one of the many dealers I’ve contacted mailed me and wanted to arrange a test drive. I replied that I already tested the ZOE for six days and was ready to pay cash anytime they were ready. Took a week to get a reply back that I had to wait… Seems that I can order it soon and deliveries are supposed to be in mid to end of August…
The biggest problem for me to get the car they said is that Sweden is not selling the car for another two years and due to the battery lease I need to be living in the country where I buy the car. I’ve ofcourse offered to pay a three year battery lease, well within the two years Renault Sweden will have the car, still no reply back…
Initially, Zoe was going to support battery swapping with Better Place.
Renault removed that from the feature late in the design cycle. Perhaps there are a few production changes to save a few euros.
The near collapse of Better Place means there won’t be battery swapping for UK based Renaults any time soon.
Home battery storage is going to be the next big development in domestic solar. Germany last month introduced a subsidy for storage if installed with a home solar array, and now something similar is happening in the US – no sign of anything in the UK though.

I also read yesterday of a solar inverter that is coming soon (later this year) that includes a 2kWh battery – and that alone is claimed to increase domestic consumption by 50%:

That video showing the ZOE getting its battery fitted implies the process is very quick and easy (faster than Tesla?) – I can’t help wondering if it is designed for battery swapping, and Renault have just decided not to publicise it for political or other reasons (e.g. since it would have been a competitor to their Fluence ZE).
As Appmacguy posted, Tesla last night demonstrated battery swapping on the Model S – here’s the official video:

To see the battery swap details better, see the link Appmacguy posted.
The Zoe production video shows it off best how the battery is fitted. The link takes you to the part in the video on youtube http://youtu.be/8WdkUZz25UY?t=3m4s
I would say it is also similar to the Tesla Model S battery swop show yesterday at … http://youtu.be/HlaQuKk9bFg?t=6s
Hm, that’s interesting about their Zoe’s having zero miles left. According to the open Charge map there is a public Mennekes Type 2 charge point not a million miles from Lookers; allowing the batteries to get in such a state seems negligent, and what will the effect be of leaving a battery discharged?
