“The delivery delay is certainly very disappointiung, plus now they are talking about a new model Zoe for 2014 which has 200 miles range, meaning I would be buying a car in August which will be obsolete in less than 12 months – no-one is going to want the lower range model when the better one comes out, and you can bet there will be no upgrade option to bring the lower range models up to the better one.”

Roger, do you have a source to back that up? There have been similar rumours before, none of which came to anything. Personally I don’t believe it – the battery is the most expensive part so Renault are probably barely breaking even on the current pack which promises a market leading range. I can’t imagine they would be in a position to upgrade it so soon.

We are reconsidering getting a Zoe.   The continued schedule slips and lack of information are making me nervous.

Zoe offers a currently unique combination of price and range.  At this point I’d only consider a PCP and not an outright purchase.  There are far too many risks with ownership.  Reliability, out of warranty support, and long term support for the battery pack are at the top of my list.

That takes us back to the Kangoo Z.E.   I like the Kangoo Z.E. and we currently use a van as our daily driver.   But the van is overpriced and one generation behind the Zoe.    If Renault cuts the price or updates the Kangoo with the Chameleon charger, we will probably order a new one.    We might go look at a used Kangoo Z.E. this weekend.

The i3 is going to be out a few months after Zoe.   At the moment the BMW looks like poor value though.  And the concept car is kinda ugly.

Debbie and I both liked the Model S a lot.    We could manage to buy a Tesla when our other car comes off lease next year.

Mercedes Citan is out next week too.   Yes it is just a Kangoo diesel wearing Mercedes clothing.  But it is one of the most fuel efficient vans on the market.

Does anyone else have any thoughts of straying from the Zoe with the delays?

It’s a difficult one – I have certainly considered other EVs. However, I keep coming back to the fact that, I believe, the Zoe is different – a gamechanger. It hits all the sweet spots better than any other EV: price, range, looks, charging speed, technology, battery lease. I have a feeling that if I settled for something else I would always be wondering if I should have held on.

I could have access to several charging points away from home, my return journey to work is about 63-65 miles, same journey 5 days a week, I work in Glasgow so there are charging points in several locations, however, hopefully I won’t be using them and making the journey on the one charge each day, occasional use at the weekend, and I might make the odd adventure further afield on my own.

Some of the guys over on Leaftalk have done between 15 and 30k miles in the last year and through discussion’s haven’t lost any range, this includes numerous rapid charging, I think our climate suits the batteries unlike Leaf users in some parts of the USA, where the heat extremities are affecting it.

I’m giving it a few days to try and gather as much info about the Zoe in regards to possibly pricing in relation to PCP/HP etc, to which I have to add the battery lease, if it’s okay and makes sense then I’ll wait for the Zoe, but if it’s going to be unrealistic for my mileage then I can go for the Leaf, that is if it doesn’t sell between now and then!

I expect the initial batch of cars to sell at list price.   I’ve seen some decent prices on Used Leafs.  Poor resale value is  Possibly because the true battery life is unknown.

18,000 miles a year in  Leaf?   Do you have access to a charging point away from home?

Hi, I also spoke with someone on Live assistance yesterday they told me June for UK deliveries, I asked for it be passed up the chain of command as I knew there were more who feel aggrieved the same as myself, the chap I spoke to said he would pass it on and took all my details.

I had also raised a question by PM’ing Renault Ze and Renault UK on their Facebook pages, ZE who are in France came back this morning and have passed this on to the UK team and told me they would be in touch soon. I’m also going over to the dealer this afternoon when I pick up the kids from school, as I need to know roughly how much the Zoe is going to cost to buy, based on deals they have on other cars at the moment.

The reason I bring the Leaf in as at a nearby dealer they have an ex demonstrator less than a year old which is at a very tasty £18495 which is affordable to me, putting this against the Zoe Intens is Zoe + just over 2 yr battery lease(based on 18k miles pa at £133per month) so depending on the car payment added to the battery lease, the Leaf may be the answer plus I can start my EV adventure now rather than wait till the summer, I would’ve been happy waiting to the Spring, but now another couple of months is beginning to take the michael, and of course there is no certainty that this is in concrete either.

Whatcar have also been asked if they can look at it and get some sort of response, I think what makes it worse is we have all signed on the line for a Zoe because we want it, but we’re not even being told one shred of information about these ‘delays’.

Yeah it is, it’s only 9 months old with 2500 miles on it, but something still has me attached to the Zoe, further range, the chameleon charger, the R Link, the colour, the tyres, the battery lease gives the security for any problems, breakdown cover (which touch wood never needs to be used)  Still tempting for the outright ownership!

That’s a good price with battery included, for sure.

At this rate though with the delays to the Zoe, the i3 could be coming out at the same time, if it runs on schedule, which I think it might do.

However, I’ve been keeping an eye on a demonstrator Nissan Leaf which has had another £500 dropped off the price so it’s now £18495, very tempting, that the Zoe Intens plus about four year battery lease for my 18k miles per annum(guesstimate).
