Hi Guys this is a copy of a post sent to me from buchanan101 in which they make a several statements that are factually untrue
Dr Steel
“The deal I have taken has got to be pound for pound the best I have ever had in acquiring a car even though I have never had a PCP before which has to change in the market very very quick as the second hand Zoe have crashed (mine losing £13k in 18 months)”buchanan101
” Dr Steel: I hardly think the second hand market has crashed in 18months. It hasn’t dropped £13k – you didn’t pay £20k for your car, nor has anyone. £7k for a car that cost you £10k or so isn’t bad at all. The market is skewed because new cars still cost about £12k/£13k, so no one would pay more than £7k for an 18moth old car when new ones can be bought for £12k/£13k.”I purchased a new Zoe Intens in September 2013 with the added extras of 17in wheels, paint protection, deliver charge, registration fee for a price in the region of 21k. Following deduction of the GOV grant the actually price for the Zoe stood at £16.300, which I paid for in full not requiring any finance deal. 18 months later I have traded the Zoe in for a new one following advice and my own research. Each dealer that I contacted valued the Zoe at 7k only on a new purchased. I could find no one privately that would offer me anywhere near the 7k
The depreciation of the Zoe from the dealers original purchase: OP 21k -OLEV 4.7K Total price paid by me 16.300K Value now 7k making a total depreciation of 14k before OLEV or 9.300k after OLEV
My prediction was that the Zoe would crash in the second hand market which I believe these figures show.
My understanding is that a new Zoe Intens is still around the 20k mark now if not taking out PCP.
March 6, 2015 at 13:18 #13518Ok, sorry Dr Steel. You’ve been scuppered by the Renault subsidy. But you didn’t actually lose £13k, which was my point, though you paid more for the car than I had assumed.
I was able to “buy” a car in December for £10,800 including the near mandatory metallic. Subsidies from gov and Renault still make it £12,800 I think.
From these numbers £7k after 18 months isn’t so bad, especially the first number.
Intens is £19,393 list or £15,195 OTR after PICG no extras with battery rental. If you buy with batteries it’s £20,043 OTR after PICG.
Great way to treat early adopters! Often the case though.
March 6, 2015 at 13:41 #13520Respect to @Drsteel. Who is on his second zoe before other forum members have even taken delivery. Knows more than all of us put together.
March 6, 2015 at 13:43 #13521As on a previous post, I think @Drsteel did well on his px considering a friend of mine just bought a 64 intens with 1500 miles on for £7250ish.
March 6, 2015 at 13:58 #13522No need to apologise buchanan101 just a misunderstanding. Thank you for the prompt reply
Thanks Samsam but I think Trevor knows more about the Zoe than I ever could. I bought the Zoe as it looked cool and I liked the concept. Like Dan my friends thought I was mad to buy the Zoe but what a car it turned out to be yes I have done my wallet damage but I give to charity and and am just a little boy at heart
Happy days 🙂
March 6, 2015 at 14:01 #13523There was a Intens for sale locally to me at a Renault dealer for £6990, had I noticed it a few days sooner I’d have bought it without even test driving a Zoe. It was such a good deal that a buyer in London phoned same day and put down a £6k deposit sight unseen (I was told by the dealer, may or may not be entirely true, we all know dealers view on truth and lies is based entirely on how big their commission is likely to be lol).
So far In my searches I’ve seen the average price of a Zoe is closer to £8.5k, of course that’s the price you or I can pay, not anything like representative of the slap in the face offer a Dealer will offer as a trade in.
The Intens I test drove yesterday is £9995 and is a September 14 model, probably (most likely) the first owner is the dealer.
Latest update on Renault site is…
Renault Selections – Intens for £15045, 4 years at £188 plus a balloon payment of £6005 to buy outright.
Cash deal – Intens for £13945 (includes a dealer contribution of £1250).I’m personally still in 2 minds, buy new….. or buy second hand?!?! That is the question.
March 6, 2015 at 14:15 #13525The guys who buy my Zoe will have a great car. The dash looks cool and today (I know its warmer) it gave me 85mils from a charge in lymm services and yesterday I drove from Sheffield to M56 Motorway, Jct 14, Elton, Chester, Cheshire, CH2 4QZ a distance of 68 miles and as I plugged in I had 18 mils left on the clock
Happy days 🙂
March 6, 2015 at 14:48 #13527@sandy I paid £9495 last October for a 14 plate INTENS. You need to be paying £8500 for that car if not a little less.
March 6, 2015 at 17:17 #13530Sandy – I got a NEW Zoe Zen for £12.2k on pcp lease scheme + battery hire which inc metallic paint + 17″ alloys. Lower price due to a £2.75k manufacturer contribution and deals inc free servicing for 4 year period. So payments = £189pm + battery. I’m HAPPY with this.
March 6, 2015 at 18:17 #13534I wouldn’t say the market crashed… I don’t think there really *is* a market at the moment. It’s so small, that the numbers don’t mean anything. If anything, it’s the *new* market that’s crashed (down to 11k!), and the used market is collateral damage.
Depreciation on stuff like this is going to be high for some time.. as competition increases, new prices will be squeezed, and that means used prices will be low too. Assume the worst; in 2018 there will be ZOEs doing twice the mileage and loads more choice in EVs; nobody is going to want an original ZOE. Either prepare for a massive loss if paying cash, or take the PCP to remove the risk (remember, with PCP if it’s worth more than the GFV, you have the equity, it’s really win/win other than the interest).

You can definitely do better than that – we’re paying something like £11,090 (or £11,190?) with metallic paint for an Intens. If your dealer won’t do close to that, I’m sure I know one that would!
