I have just read that the standard 3 pin cable will
not be available for the zoe. If this is true, then
this really compromises its useability.
I had thoughts of visiting friends who live , say, 60
miles away, giving the car a top up on the domestic
cable then returning. Now I’d have to use the gas
guzzler 🙁
February 11, 2013 at 11:28 #1940Kieron, I assume that the Leaf cable would work fine, or a cable for the plug-in Prius, Volt, etc cars. If anyone can verify this with Renault (or if they have a cable for Fluence, Twizy or Kangoo we can use) it would be great. Also a reference price would be great.
I will be calling a Chinese maker on Monday (after the holidays here) and check the prices from the factories.
February 12, 2013 at 17:18 #1946Hi All
Have been away in Canaries so have not been active lately, anyway British Gas came to fit my free charger today which to my disappointment they could not fit. My garage is detached from the house therefore an earth spike is needed to comply with the regulations, unfortunately they could not get the correct ohms readings therefore the unit could not be fitted as the charger will not work without the correct earth. Another annoyance is that a dedicated 30amp cable needs to be run to the garage for the charger. It seems Reno are making it very difficult for us to buy the Zoe, it should be available with a 3 pin plug from the factory otherwise several people will be in the same position as me!
February 19, 2013 at 23:31 #1970Hi All,
My Polar/BG charger was installed today, second time round. First time the wrong charger was on the van 16amp and not a Type 2 connector. Now have 32amp charger with Type 2 connector….just need the car!!
In my case although BG knew I wanted connection for Zoe the engineer only had 16amp cable in van.
So if any of you are having the charger fitted soon, then make sure the cable fitted to garage in 32amp and the charger has a Type 2 connector.
February 20, 2013 at 15:07 #1972I found a vendor here in China that makes:
220V Schuko to Mennekes Type-2 (16/32/63A)
Mennekes Type-2 to Mennekes Type-2 (16/32/63A)
Since we get the Type-2 to Type when we buy the car, I will see if they can also make an adapter from 220V Schuko to Mennekes female.
They are working on a wallbox and I will get more information later. But it will be able to handle 63A 3phases 220V, so basically a quick charger, but doubt I can get that installed at home…
I will try to visit them next week and take some photos (if allowed) and inform everyone about their view of the worldwide market as well as China market.
February 20, 2013 at 21:50 #1973dbdb, what sort of price was that system? It sounds pretty powerful at 32A.
February 20, 2013 at 21:55 #1975Hi Trevor,
The charger was free under the Polar/British Gas scheme.
But I got my electrician to provide the 32amp feed to my garage although BG would have done it…probably using two 16amp cables runs. BG only charge if they have to lift floor boards.
I would recommend to any to get the 32amp charger rather than the 16amp one.
February 24, 2013 at 12:10 #2037dbdb, I’d love to know more – I’m hesitating to go ahead with an installation without knowing more. Do you have any photos?
February 24, 2013 at 12:30 #2038dbdb, how did British Gas get on with your earth is your garage detached or attached to the house? As previously mentioned my free charger could not be fitted due to the earth spike not attaining the right Ohms reading.
February 24, 2013 at 12:41 #2039Trevor:
I can post some photos but it will be later in the week. The unit looks like this: http://www.chargemasterplc.com/index.php/applications-home/ but is in white and has the Polar logo on.
Why are you hesitating? Please ask any questions and I see if I can answer them.
Mervync13:
I had my electrician do the earthing and put the 32 amp cable to my garage as it needed 22 meters cable run to the garage (not attached to the house). The earth reading should be under 150 Ohms otherwise BG will not install; mine was 50 Ohms. They simply drilled down about 3/4 metre into a corner in the garage floor and then placed this long copper rod into the drilled hole. It was a better than expected Ohm reading. I guess you could get a local electrician in to try for you, there might be other options like more than one rod or another place to earth too.
As I said in a earlier post make sure you get a 32 amp charger and not a 16 amp; the BG chap that came to me was all set up for 16 amp only. It was a good job I have the 32 amp feed fitted already in the garage.
