The free charging station offered with the Renault Zoe and supplied and fitted by British Gas has a fixed charging cable that seems upon inspection to be around the same length of the cable supplied with the Zoe. I thought I’d post so current and new members knew.
With it being fixed to the wall box I wanted to make sure it was the same length (or longer) as this will effect where the wall box is fixed at home and how our cars need to be parked at night (although the Fiesta Econetic needs no charge).

Can you say how long the cable is? And is this a box you saw at a dealer, or do you have it installed already?
May 11, 2013 at 18:46 #2735Hi Trevor, thanks for the reply.
Renault Leicester have one in the showroom on a display stand. Although we didnt measure it I would say it is about 6m long.

AnonymousAny idea if the cable is retractable? My tiny garage is too small to fit the Zoe in easily, so I’m considering whether to put the charge box inside the garage and fit a cat-flap to the garage door, or whether to have the charge box on the side of the house in front of the garage.
The former idea is more work and more faff to use, but reduces the risk of bored teenagers interfering with the unit. The latter idea is the easiest, but I don’t much fancy having a 6m cable lying around the drive.
May 12, 2013 at 12:25 #2767Deejay, you are in a similar situation to myself. The charging unit is neat as the cable wraps behind the faceplate of the unit and once full unreeled the cable is fixed to the unit at the bottom (6 O’Clock position).
AndyW in another thread said the cable was 3 meters and I have asked him where the measurement is from as I estimated seeing unreeled to be around 6 meters.
May 12, 2013 at 14:46 #2758Our British Gas wall-box charger has a 3m tethered cable. This is a Polar branded box, exactly the same as the ones provided by Renault. Our box is a 32amp 7KW charger. Though we have been promised by Renault on may occasions that the wall-box would be installed before we would take delivery of a Zoe, we have lost faith in this so have got the box installed ourselves. It seems to us that Renault are blissfully unaware of the fact that British Gas (their installer) has a pretty big backlog of installs to get through at the moment and have a lead time of at least about six weeks (some areas are even longer apparently according to our installation guy). We also didn’t want this to cause further delay to our ZOE delivery!
May 12, 2013 at 23:03 #2815Here is a closer more detailed photo of the wall charge box:

I can confirm that the total length when fully unwound is just under 3.4 meters. We have also tested to see if the keys are a universal fit, however they are not and are unique to each wall-box.

May 25, 2013 at 17:16 #3130@andyw. Having been to the dealership today I got some information which I thought incorrect. I was told the home charging station (british gas/chargemaster one) takes 6-8 hours to charge the battery. This is more in line with a 16amp 3.7kw version.
I’m confused as I thought they were 32amp 7kw which gives a 3-4 hour charge. I am no electrician so am unfamiliar with what is possible on a home circuit.
Can you or someone set me straight as my next trip to the dealership in June may be the visit I order one.
Thanks in advance!
May 25, 2013 at 17:24 #3134Been looking at the Leaf and the information they gave regarding wall units and chargers was more detailed, and it left me with the impression that the charger should be faster (as you describe). Be interested to hear on this one.
Off to join a Leaf forum, compare notes and compose thoughts, it was a nice experience.
