Yes the BMW i3 is very nice, but the Zoe was just over £9000 with the PiCG and Renaults Offering just before Christmas and with the buy back option after 4 years. Its a bit of an experiment to see if we can live with a EV aswell.
It’s made us think, we usually only make a handful long distance trips a year, so if the time comes to replace the Freelander, it might just be another EV and not a PEVH. Time will tell, we are relaying on home charging, as there is no public charge points yet in Cumbria, apart from local hotels etc, nearest one to us is 25 miles away.
mrash – pre-heating = setting the cars comfort heat setting so the cars warms up while plugged in.
that means when you set off on your journey your not wasting valuable car range to heat a stone cold car…
also regarding range – on average i get about 70ish miles. my car is on the 17′ tyres and i do a fair bit of dual carraigeway driving @ 58mph but i still can get 70 miles (using preheat and charging the car in the garage overnight to keep the battery temp higher)
Even though they took a month to tell me the car I originally ordered (which was supposed to be delivered after 10 days) never left the import centre due to it having a scratched wheel and that they dont keep spares there so I would have to wait for one to be sent from the factory.
Then when they said that could take a while they took three weeks to source another Zoe which, when it eventually turned up it had been sat as a showroom model for a few weeks with the battery fully charged (big no-no in the handbook) so consequently the battery was no good and I had to wait for a replacement to be shipped from france.
BUT!
Knowing then what I know now . . .
I would still buy this great little car only I would have waited a bit and saved £20 a month in battery rental charges!
Yes I would buy a Zoe again, its been a great little car shame in a way that Toyota or BMW hadn’t built it as the experience of buying and promoting the car would have been better.
The car still drives the same as when I bought it, the R Link could do with updating as my wife’s new Mini has some excellent bluetooth features which would be good on Zoe.
To reduce the number of cars in our household I would say a 200 mile electric car would do the trick.
The replacement for the original car that had total electrical failure arrived today.
Less than 8 miles on the clock & the heating packs up, making a god awful noise –
