If you added temperature as an extra variable an easy short cut in the spreadsheet would be to reduce battery capacity by a specific percent for every degree the temperature is less than say 8 degrees.

Could I be missing something? Something the dealer or Renault forgot to activate?

Yes. There are two ZE services – one for seeing battery charge state (“ZE Connect” – this is included for 3 years with new cars) and one for controlling AC, charge schedule, remote charging (“ZE Interactive” – this is included for only 12 months).

I suspect they dealer only activated one. Ours nearly did the same thing; we saw it still pending on his screen when he showed us he’d “done them all”, and when we pointed it out, he clicked it and set it off.

An average speed of 56mph means you were doing upto and upwards of 70mph some of the time definitely (well in my view). I did a longish run with mixed motorway and a road, and some b road and my average was down closer to 30mph (which is typically the case over a trip, some of which is stopped at junctions etc).

3.1mpkwh is a max range of 68 miles out of a full battery. Just looked up the picture I took my big trip, where I nearly ran out of charge I averaged 4.0mpkwh, and my average speed was 28.2mph. I know I was doing 70+mph for about 30-ish miles, then the final push for a rapid charger was typically 49mph. I started with about 88% battery at the start and covered about 77 miles on a charge, at a guess I started with about 19.36kwh, which meant I had less than 1/2 a mile to play with when I pulled up.

Hi Donkeh, how are you pulling the data to produce the charging graph? My charge point is fitted on wednesday (yey!) and I’d like to monitor the battery performance…

I did 55 miles on a 90% battery. I’m fully aware that motorways will effect range and consumption more negatively but, at points, it was slightly worrying. I tried to drive economically, rarely did I venture to 70mph and I used eco for longish periods. I am, of course, simplifying this too much I guess.

I think I finished up with about 3.10mpkwh and an average speed of 56mph so I should consider myself being about right.

I’ll see what she is like on my normal useage, I.e to work and back. I guess that is when I will properly try to get to the 100 mark.

Giving 65miles range for a full charge when you’ve just done effectively 63miles on a 90% battery is pretty spot on. Why would you expect more? The range prediction reflects how you’ve driven recently!

Only icons I see are “battery” “home” and “settings”
    None have A/C settings, strange.

I mean, I’m new to this but I was slightly surprised at the rate the battery depleted on my trip (just arrived at my final destination). I did Blackburn to Chester services on an 90% battery. It’s a 55 mile trip. I made it with 8 miles left on the range. That’s fine I suppose but whe I charged to 100% at Chester to go onwards it said I had 65 miles left (I would have hoped for more) then when I did the 10 miles from the services to the hotel I finished up with 45 miles left.

Ok, the heater was on, it was all motorway, it was 5 degrees and the wipers we’re going. Is this about right? Will I ever see a 100 mile range?

Using the formula Trevor posted here (assuming I converted it correctly to miles, and assumed the correct battery size), I updated my spreadsheet to show approximately what the driving+charging times are for long journeys based on speed.

The goal is to know the best speed to minimise travel times on long journeys when there are no problems getting a charge. If you’re unsure about reliability of chargers it makes sense to stop frequently and charge to 80%. If making a long stop (eg. lunch), timing that with a long charge (from low SoC) will effectively give you that charging time “for free” (though obviously running low to do this comes with risks).

Assuming the formula is fairly accurate, the optimal speeds are 60-75mph, with the lower end of the range meaning less charging but more time spent on the roads; whereas the upper range is less time on the roads with more time charging.

Seems to work out quite well, driving at 70mph on the motorway is not going to penalise you as long as you’re sure of a charge 🙂
