Your Zoe can txt you when it needs a charge? How do you set that up? Pretty handy feature.
It only notifies you when you have a low battery warning.. generally less than 8%ish.. I don’t have this set-up since I will be driving the car and will aware of the low battery level. 🙂
It can be set-up in the notifications setting on the ZE services website or app.
I’m still unconvinced that prices will crash. A lot is riding on this mythical battery range increase
It’s not so much about prices “crashing”, it’s about there being no real market for them used. A car is only worth what people will pay for it; and in 3 years time there will be a huge choice of EVs, the range will probably be better, many people buying something so new will want warranties for peace of mind, new EVs might all be CCS (the charge points will follow, with old connectors being maintained less well).
Nobody can predict the future, but the way I see it:
PCP – if the values stay high, you win (the equity is yours)
PCP – if the values plummet, you win (the finance company covers the depreciation)
Buy – if the values stay high, you win (he equity is yours)
But – if the values plummet, you lose
It seems a no-brainer to me. The only substantial argument against the PCP is the cost of the interest; but I don’t think that’s high enough (when compared to normal HP interest) to make any real difference.
Did some googling and to my eye it looks like most of the gains will be due to better packaging meaning the ability to squeeze more bang into the same area. Which is great of course, but then what stops Renault and Nissan making a better battery pack and offering it to existing users? Hopefully nothing, who best to test the new tech than existing owners?
I’m still unconvinced that prices will crash. A lot is riding on this mythical battery range increase, where is the science, where are the early examples of the tech? Mobile phones have had the same tech for years and show no signs of changing any time soon.
I think in 5 years we will be on the same battery tech, because it will be fully matured and fully road tested over millions of miles, the only change may be better packaging meaning more KWH in a similar sized space. Time will tell, but I don’t think Renault or for that matter Nissan would go out of their way to shaft those brave early adopters.
Unless someone can show me a link to a car being tested with this “new” tech now, if its not being road tested now then it won’t have a hope of being road ready for Joe public in 2 years.
The new “engine” only increases range by a small amount and at a cost of the big fast charger.
But hey I might be wrong, i’m happy to take the punt just now seeing as interest rates are so rubbish there is no point on having my savings sitting doing nowt. Plus the money I’m saving now can soon replenish those lost savings.
I doubt there is any one 100% right answer.
We all have our theorys. II paid for mine outright. When my battery rental runs out I’ll upgrade onto the new battery and keep my car.
You my friend have answered your own question. How will you cope switching from a 600mile range car to a 90 one? Answer, easily as you’ve said your longest trip is 130miles, you will need 1 charge while on that trip, so add 30mins to your journey and your onto a winner.
I would say why not look at a demonstrator for sale. If your getting £11.5k for the Megane you could get a Zoe for as little as £8500 on a 64 plate. So newer then your current car, and you’ll be £3k quids in plus you’ll own the car outright.. You can put the saving towards the battery hire. Or send me a donation for being such a helpful tight arse Scotsman. 😉
I’m with you, first test drive I was pretty much sold. I’m nervous about long perm ownership, but excited too about such a serene quiet smooth drive. My partner didn’t come on the test drive, she’s not been so positive about an electric everyday driver but I’ve a feeling one short drive and she’ll be sold.
Hi guys,
I am following this forum since a while and today decided to share my doubts with you, maybe some different view can help me to decide.
I have a Megane diesel 1.5, plate 14 with around 6900 miles, did the 1st year service last Friday and while waiting for the service I made a test drive with the Zoe, and got in love instantly!
Arrived at home and made all the calculations to see which would be the cost difference and came out that they have virtually the same cost for me due to the battery lease value.the Zoe is cheaper by 2 pounds a month.
We are me and my Mrs only and we leave close to work, around 3 miles, and we travel across Britain sometimes in the weekend (I would say once a month) our travels normally involves around 130miles of travel.
I am negotiating with a dealer to have my megane in the deal (11.5k) and a PCP for a Zoe with no interests and final price of 14k including metallic painting, G3, 3 years service and the granny cable. Guaranted value of 6.5k. And the residual cash back.
I think the car would fit our day by day uses and our travels would require a little bit more planning but nothing impossible, I am just a bit afraid to change a a car with 600 miles range for one with 60-90…
What do you think? Opinions are more than welcome!!!
Thank you very much!!!
Actually, that’s not true! Once you add the interest in, you’re paying more than £12k, so will hit 50% before the end of the term (though not long).
What’s interesting, is that they can’t bill you for excess mileage if you do this! So I presume that if you go over your PCP mileage, you could do this in just before the end to avoid the charge! Although it can’t affect your credit rating, that finance company could refuse you finance in future.
Sadly, it’s Battery Rental is the expensive thing for excessive mileage for us, which is obviously not covered.
Interesting to know! 🙂
Just met a guy who claims to have the oldest zoe in the uk? It was registered on 26/6/13. He hadn’t heard of myrenaultzoe.com so we may see him on here soon. He may well know a lot about the zoe and hopefully any battery degradation. Can anyone beat that date?
In case of Spotify you don’t loose all your music if you stop. Your account simply goes back to a free account and you will only be able to stream it to certain devices instead of downloading it to play offline.. and you get ads.. lots of ads..
Yeah; that’s still bad enough that it feels like you’re losing something 🙁
I don’t mind subscriptions for things where there’s no value in keeping access to things (eg. LoveFilm; once I’ve seen a film, I’ve seen it), but for music it feels like you’re stuck paying forever (maybe like a car on PCP? ;)).
Google Music works out really well… I have access on all my devices; simply buying something and adding it to the playlist gets it automatically synced to my phone for offline play (avoiding streaming while driving, saving battery, data, not getting hot in my pocket!). After a few years, I have a huge library that’s mine (I can even download them as MP3 from GM and put them somewhere else – though it is a shame they’re not lossless!).
I posted this sometime ago, but some newcomers might find it useful
Very handy, thanks! My wife will be using USB; so good to know what it supports – my Megane seems super-fussy and frequently errored when I used to add songs to the USB stick I use to use!
Has anyone tried copying the contents from the provided SD card to another to see if it works? They seem to suggest you can’t use another because the maps data is on the provided card, but don’t go as far as saying whether you can copy that data too. Would be handy to know!
