Looks like you’ve totally busted the formatting ;P Does anyone know why we can’t edit posts?
I recently read the manual, and remember it saying 45% too (it also says it’ll cut off if at any point it’s consumed more than 5% battery). 45% doesn’t seem too bad to me (last thing you want, is getting back to your car with 20miles range and the nearest charger is 30!), but 60 does sound really excessive :/
What’s really stupid though, is that the app is able to tell what your current charge level is, so it could give you a warning/message if you tried to start it and the battery is too low rather than silently failing? 🙁
Mine only works via the website when plugged in. If it is on the drive and not plugged in it doesn’t work (even with 100% battery)
The title says it all. I have great issues with getting the pre-conditioning to work via the website or the app. All works fine when the car is plugged in and charging. When it’s not, it works about 1 in 10 times.
I have had Renault Ireland look into this and they are telling me that if it doesn’t work, it’s either because:
- The car does not have a mobile signal.
- The battery is below 60%!!
The first reason I totally understand. The second sounds like rubbish to me. For 2 reasons.
1) Why is that % so high? Does it waste that much energy? Surely not 60%. I get that you need a certain battery % for it to work but in the Leaf it’s 15%. That makes more sense. If you drive somewhere and start with a full battery it doesn’t take long before you are below 60%. This would mean that the remote preconditioning is only useful when you start your journey with a full battery. And this mostly means you are plugged in.
2) All the documentation, including the actual Renault Services website, says this cut-off is 45%. It’s still to high for the above reasons but it’s, crucially, a lot lower than what Renault are telling me!! This confirms my testing with the keyfob. This stops working when the battery is less than 45% and would point at a big software design fault if the remote app cut off is 60% but the keyfob is 45%.
I have emailed them back saying I will test this and include this in my videos. In order to broaden the testing I decided to ask you guys and gals to help!
Would all of you, if you want of course, test out when the remote pre-conditioning stops working for ye? I will be testing it out at around 65% and below 60 but above 45% and below 45%, from the same spot that I know works (my driveway).
I then will ask Renault to change this limit, 45% as well as perhaps 60%, as it make this function more or less redundant!!
they only see my Zoe Intense black 17in wheels 12,000 mils 14 months old as £7.000 as a trade in
Yikes! I expected it to depreciate quickly, but that’s more than I expected. The PCP we’re taking puts a guaranteed future value of around 6k on ours in 4 years. We’ll look forward to handing them back and not having to make up the difference ;O)
Your deal sounds good – I presume by cashback they mean they’ll give you 7k for yours, paying 2k as deposit on the new one and giving you a cheque for 5k. That’s effectively what we’re doing, we’re getting £7k back for our two cars as a cheque, and paying £500 deposit on each car (our monthly payments are about £143, so a little higher than yours due to smaller deposit).
The cashback we’re getting settles a loan we have, which is almost 100% of the monthly payments we’ll make on both cars; so it works out that our outgoings will only go up by the battery rental, and that’s then less than the saving in fuel, so we actually end up with more money in our pockets each month by taking the new cars (for the first few years, at least, until the original end date of the loan).

Fairly standard Top Gear Numptiness, I thought, although I have to admit I struggled about the same the first time I used one of the electrocity chargers – the gotcha being the Ok/cancel buttons arn’t next the the icons on the screen like the rest of them.
JC seemed impressed by the remote control – did refrain from waving my phone about and shouting “mine does that”.
What I did think though was that the i8 is a very complicated car compared to an EV which is basically just a battery, speed controller and a motor….actually you can see EVs killing off programs like Top Gear when the reviewer can no longer talk about engine size, cylinders, twin turbos and inter coolers when all the cars just have a battery, speed controller and a motor…. 🙂
That’s a great call Dexter and a good scenic run its part of the same route the Tour De France took I used it yesterday you use loads of battery power going up the A628 but Charge all the way down the other side you also pass me and shopping mall called Meadowhall on the M1 they have fast charge but I doubt if you need it but that could be are meeting place
The Ikea at Wellington Rd, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Tameside, Manchester Is only a Single charge fast yes but only single so your gamble as always “is it free” when you get there
After Doncaster M18/M180, Junction 5, M18 Motorway, Doncaster, South Yorkshire DN8 5GS I really would go over the Humber Bridge it would just cap you day off
I take it you was born In Holland
Happy days
The preheat a lot longer when you schedule it but unsure about the hour bit. The display show “pre-soak” for a good while (bout 15 minutes I think) and there doesn’t appear to be any noise coming from the car. The AC only starts about 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure and runs for about 15 minutes after the scheduled departure. This is a bit of a noisy affair. The AC in my Zoe sounds like a jet engine! The schedule only works when plugged in and doesn’t drain the battery. It is great on cold days when the windows are frosted over. It clears it completely when allowed to run for the whole 15 – 30 minutes.
The keyfob/website/app turning on of the air-conditioning “only” runs for about 5 minutes and your battery has to be over 45% charged to do this. It does defrost the windscreen in most cases but I have had to run it 3 – 4 times on bad frost days. The website/app only seems to work for me when the car is plugged in but I have been told Renault Ireland are looking into why this is. It should work even when not plugged on. The key works all the time providing the battery is over 45%. Problem is that I would like to use it when I am not near the car so that it is warm(er) when I arrive. If I have it on a charger, no problems. If I don’t, only 1 in 10 attempts seem to be successful.
Hi guys
After hearing that the 5k discount is coming to an end in March I have thought of trading in Zoe for a new one, the LAD I have now has done 12500k and is in very good condition to say its not garaged and is 16 to 17 months old (Evans Halshaw did put the paint protection on for free) I bought the car out right so I only pay the battery lease
I have made the call and will give you all the figs when they get back to me next week but it will be interesting to see the depreciation
I am also told that Sheffield EH is the best place to buy a new Zoe in the UK just sold 2 from the London area this month
Happy Days
My dealer said its the 12v battery that might go flat if the car is left.
