Having got the Zoe just before Christmas, I’ve not been bothered with the ECO mode, but having found how fast it can go, what happens when the battery goes flat, I thought I’d try the ECO mode, and so been using it constantly all this week.

The improvement in range is a bonus, although the lack of oomph and the 60 mile speed limit, could perhaps lead to some problems if you’re not careful, especially if filtering in to fast moving traffic. As I found out…

Anyway, the car is noticeably colder and takes a while to warm up. Perhaps of more concern is that there’s now a lot of condensation building up on the windows, which seems to me that the air con is no longer running as well as it should be.

It doesn’t help the windscreen is large and sloping and virtually impossible to wipe with a cloth.

Given a while, it does clear, but I mainly use the car for very short journeys, so don’t get the chance for that to happen.

So, is there any setting hidden away that allows the heating not to be affected by the ECO mode?

i would vote yes – BUT i hope that the Zoe #2 has some major improvements and battery range needs to be at least doubled and they need to keep the rapid charging abilty!

my understanding is that when you sell the car you also need to ensure that the battery contract is also transfered at the same point otherwise the previous owner remains responsible for the battery lease.

renault can disable the battery remotely (there are some potential ways to stop this!) if the battery lease is not paid up which would effectively render the car useless…

something which needs to be verified is when you buy a 2nd hand car is you have to take over the previous owners contract (mileage/rates) or if you can negoiate a new contract or even ‘buy’ the battery so you pay no more battery lease.

it’s all uncharted waters and will be interesting in the coming months…

Thanks Samsam, really useful. Presumably as an ex-demo car, you must have got that from a Renault dealer, and if so, presumably the dealer just signed you up for the battery contract as part of selling the ex demo car. Would that be right?

Has anyone else bought a second hand car from an independent dealer, or even sold privately. If so, what did you do… Just go to Renault to sign up for just the battery hire? Presumably the car still “has” the battery when the car is sold independently / privately, so presumably Renault must have a way of stopping you from just using it without a battery hire contract? Sorry to be naive, but this is all new concepts!

[This is an old but popular thread, so here’s a summary of the situation in 2017-18:

    • There are now lots of second-hand/used 22kWh Renault ZOEs hitting the market as they come off PCP contracts.
    • You have the option of purchasing one outright for cash or on a new PCP contract (i.e. with a deposit and a monthly payment).
    • In either case you will need to start a battery lease contract with Renault, but you can choose whatever mileage you want – it doesn’t have to be related to what the previous owner had.
    • Current prices are available through Fuel Included Limited: Used ZOE prices and new ZOE prices (long range version).

    Hi ZOE owners,

I’m currently researching the ZOE to replace an old gas guzzler that I only use for about 3000 miles per year. Given its a second car in the household and only used occasionally and locally, electric seems like a feasible option, and I see that a £25/month Z.E. Access battery rental has recently been introduced that would be perfect for my annual mileage.

My question is about how the battery rental works if I were to buy a used ZOE… If a year old car were purchased originally on, say for example, a £70/month battery rental, would that carry over to me with the car, or would I be free to take out the cheaper Z.E. Access battery rental as a new agreement?

    Thanks

As I understand it most Teslas can connect via the Type 2 connector for AC home charging like Zoe and have that option at Eco chargers as well if the DC supercharger is not working. The DC cable effectively connects directly to the battery bypassing the onboard AC charger and does not need card activation. So the type 2 connection on the Ecotricity units is compatible with both cars, but will need card activation.

this is a realy cool concept…

imagine if the Zoe could do the same….

Can’t comment on phone app. However in terms of AC…if it is plugged in then of course you can have more than 5 mins before you use it.

Of course out in the countryside – the balance is that it of course depletes the battery. But even the chance of 5 mins activated remotely is a feature regular cars don’t have.

For a first evolution car it gives you so much more than regular cars.

my zoe used to do this when i first got it. but since the multiple updates/repairs that my zoe has gone thru this problem stopped long ago.

even when the radio stayed on it usually turns off after 2 to 5 mins. my feeling is the r-link is doing some kind of background update but with the update to the versions of r-link they fixed the radio appearing to stay on…

in my non techinical view this is nothing to worry about. 12v battery will not go flat becuase of this…

It probably worth giving Renault a call about it. The radio has potential to flatten your 12 volt battery and cause you all sorts of problems. It sounds like the radio and R-link units aren’t talking correctly.
