In reply to: Charging Issues?
A friend of mine decided to get a Zoe and it arrived last Weds, by Friday it had the “BATTERY CHARGE IMPOSSIBLE” message; going back to dealer for repair tomorrow.
I’ve had my Zoe since last Oct, never had this message and have charged at Rapid chargers and quite a few Source London ones whilst covering 6,000 miles.
I’ve tried to follow other messages regarding this problem and can’t seem to see a pattern of why some cars get it.
My car is back at the dealers today as the SIM card has been disconnected since 4 June hence I’ve lost all the connected services features and I’m still battling with Renault CS regarding the bugs in R-Link!!

Be cautious, my electron-driven colleagues! As far as I read my battery rental agreement, you can increment your mileage upwards but not downwards. Of course it is fine if you know you’re going to burn up your mileage, but if you’re just having a big-mile month then I’d not recommend you upgrade unless you have to.
It is my understanding that you need to stay within a projected 20% over-margin of your mileage (for which you pay an excess mileage charge above the nominal mileage) else you get bumped up to the next monthly rate. It’s monitored remotely by some ‘grand-frere’ computer. Clearly they don’t seem able to even upgrade if you ask them at the moment, let alone rely on an automatic system, but it would be disappointing to get bumped to the next grade up when you’ve only just nibbled over the 20% margin.
I’m not entirely sure what I am saying is correct, it is rather going on my hazy comprehension of the rental agreement. If anyone would like to correct me, please do so as I am heading towards exactly that situation – I will be tickling over 7,200 miles on a 6,000 pa contract. Yes, going to 9,000 miles would wrap that one up and if they are not taking the higher rate at the moment, that would really favour my situation, but I’ll still have to go sleep on that!
One thing I’ve never quite understood, I mean, if my PCP is due to end at the end of the year, which it is, and I’ve actually done, say, 8,000 av pa, if I move to the 9,000 rate but only in the very last month, do I then need to pay for any extra over-miles, or if not how is it all calculated? I can’t see anything in the agreement about the calculation for over-miles payment if you change the monthly rate half-way through.

OH sweet memories, we where doing exactly what you are doing last May – June as our Zoe was flat bedded to Renault ZE service Birmingham on 3 occasions.
It took a software update for the Zoe’s charge control computer to fix the problem (sort of ) as 2 out of 10 charge
attempts still end in the dreaded “BATTERY CHARGE IMPOSSIBLE”. and the charge schedular works when it wants to.Do we all agree that Renault have rushed the launch of Zoe as it is touch and go if we are able to fuel our cars and just imagine if all ICE car owners where told by the petrol/Diesel pump “FILLING YOUR FUEL TANK IS IMPOSSIBLE” there would be
rioting in the streets 🙁 🙁June 18, 2014 at 09:39 #9040In reply to: Charging Issues?
Tried the above suggestions and nothing works, I have also noticed that as soon as you unlock the car before even opening the charge flap it brings the “Battery Charging Impossible” error up on the dash.
Car will be going to the dealer on a flat bed, have already been in contact with Renault UK about this problem so will wait to see what happens and how they handle it.

Hi Gerard
Theres no problem getting Insurance from Renault Insurance and the battery cover is included.
Try 0800 500 3108 and make sure they know its for an electric vehicle (as quote is cheaper). I got the best quote from them and I am happy to know that Renault should know that they are covering the battery too.
Hope you get on ok

I’ve been getting over 100 miles range with the weather being warmer.
When you purchase your car the dealer can give you a print out of the battery charge capacity and its this used as the top level for the 75% battery guarantee. This is what I was told by Renault Customer Services but I have not been back to my dealer to get this print out.

I only get 75-80 and I don’t know if that is smart ie based on current usage patterns (which or me means town stop start).
How does the battery guarantee work?! Replace if falls below certain capacity but how does one know?

Hi all-Gerard here, near Enniskillen,N.Ireland. I’ve owned an ebike about 7 years, and became aware NI is getting on the EV bandwagon with the launch of our province wide charger network in 2013.This year, the Body running the programme, ecarni, hosted an EV roadshow, giving the public the chance to see a range of the cars in the metal and get a test run in them.I had a look at a Leaf,a Twizy,A Zoe,and BMW i3 RX…I like the Zoe…there are a couple of demonstrator cars appearing on used car websites marked down a few thou recently, and I just want to see what deal would be best to get one..My chief concern is this about the battery needing it’s own insurance, and phoning the company listed on the Renault website to discover they won’t offer cover for a Zoe is troubling..trying for a test drive soon,so hoping the dealer can answer some questions!

I am regularly seeing over 100 miles charge on the dash.even 105 yesterday from the EBG 22k CP.In winter this was as low as 80,due I guess to battery temp. But I think I am getting a greater charge if I allow the charger to remain on at 99/100% Could this be due to battery balancing?and is it therefore worth waiting until the dash display goes black after completion?
