Good Afternoon,
First post here – long time lurker! Have a Zoe Dynamic Nav (she’s brill).
Just got this email though from Ecotricity:Dear —–,
We’ve noticed that you’ve charged up using one of our pumps at an IKEA store recently, so we just wanted to let you know that from next week these won’t be free to use any more.
Following the changes to the Electric Highway over the summer, we’re bringing our pumps at IKEA stores in line with the rest of the network.
From the morning of 14th November, it will cost £6 for a 30 minute charge from all our IKEA pumps.
In order to continue encouraging customers to use sustainable modes of transport, IKEA will be running a promotion for their customers who charge at one of their stores. From 14 November 2016 you can receive a £6 discount on your in store purchase made on the same day as your charge by simply showing your email payment receipt at the IKEA checkout, subject to IKEA terms and conditions.
For more information about this, please visit the IKEA website.
Thanks for being with us.
The Electric Highway Team
Sounds like a good move for those who actually shop at the store! Guess i’ll just have to stock up on more Dime Bar cake if I want a quick charge at the Metro Centre!
November 8, 2016 at 15:15 #30074Yep, got the same.
It looks good for IKEA shoppers (me!), but it’s going to cause trouble. The rapid charging people are going to get very annoyed with the IKEA shoppers. They’ll be in the store for more than 30 mins, and will be accused of hogging the charger. IKEA should really have slow Type 2 chargers for shoppers.November 8, 2016 at 15:35 #30075For sure – and equally the fact that non-shoppers are using the destination ‘rapid’ charges, would annoy shoppers.
Washington Services is 6 mile down the A1(M), for regular rapid charging needs. The issue is further compounded at the Metro Centre, Gateshead (europe’s largest shopping mall), as they have 2(!) slow chargers and the electric highway charger at Ikea. It really is a shocking lack of support for EV drivers.
November 8, 2016 at 21:04 #30076I have been trying alternative route to the Ecotricity ones today as I headed south using Charge Your Car points in York and Corby and a Inmotion one in Doncaster. The latter is completely free including parking although not signposted a Misti PHEV owner informed me alas only after I paid. These were only 22kW units fine for my R240 and two needed by lead which is the first time I have used them for this rate of charge. I wanted to use the charge point in Nottingham but a Tesla was parked here . Clearly someone to leave it for quite some time.
November 9, 2016 at 16:15 #30077That’s very interesting, finding 22kw units.
I regularly trip from Durham to Nottingham, as I have the R240 too, avoiding the motorway services would be a dream.Although I’m with Ecotricity so the £6 charge isn’t much of an issue.
