Well – you wouldn’t be allowed to tax electricity as we all need this for our homes. So in my mind that it can’t be taxed going forwards.
January 12, 2015 at 10:57 #11723probably PAYG based on mileage (as current car tax is based on emissions but EV’s dont have any emissions). so they are probably re-thinking how to milk EV drivers….
however i think we are 5+ years away from anything like this…. watch this space…
regarding the data monitoring – honestly i think OLEV and renault is the least of our worries. read up about edward snowden…
January 12, 2015 at 11:19 #11724Sorry – yes I should have differentiated between the electricity and the car ie. the electricity can’t be taxed but am sure the cars will at some point in the (not too near) future.
January 12, 2015 at 11:21 #11725I think PAYG on KWh – that’s simpler. The charging station simply asks how much credit the owner has and charges the vehicle to the balance available. It could be doing that now and the service is just returning an arbitrary value.
It is, I agree the least of our problems.
January 12, 2015 at 12:08 #11726We currently pay 5% VAT on our electricity which I believe is the minimum that the EU will let our government tax it at.
January 12, 2015 at 18:15 #11732It shouldn’t need ZE services to use the in car scheduler, it has no need of phone connectivity for this (unless that’s it’s only way of knowing time and date ?)
January 13, 2015 at 00:46 #11740Thanks very much for every ones help and comments. Its all under way so will just have to wait and see.
Just one other question. I thought it was ZE services and not RE services or is this just another bum steer?regards
NoggyJanuary 13, 2015 at 08:55 #11741ZE services. think RE was a typo!
January 13, 2015 at 08:58 #11742Apols – think that was me. Yes ZE Services. I can’t remember the finer detail!

I don’t think that this is correct. In the early months of the Zoe, many owners (me included) suffered scheduled charging problems which were attributed to the Renault server having routine maintenance, particularly over Saturday night. No communication – no charging.
