A lot of posts here on the forum mention programming, range, drag, maths, Kilowatts, amps, apps, websites. I love reading the discussion even if I don’t understand all of it.
We have a massivly diverse collection of folk here and I started to wonder what professions people have. As a group I’d think we have potential to advise or help people out in a whole host of situations.
With that in mind, what’s your job, profession or hobby?
August 31, 2013 at 08:56 #4838I’ll start … I am a Graphic Designer.
(I tell people I colour in for a job and I am good enough to stay between the lines)
August 31, 2013 at 09:40 #4839Consultant working in IT. Mostly Java-based technologies, big data (Hadoop), cloud-based environments and service-oriented architecture. I’ve run a couple of businesses and used to head up a web development department at a financial company.
August 31, 2013 at 10:00 #4842I’m a software developer (.NET). Used to work in The City as a contractor for a number of different Asset Management companies. We’ve got two young kids so decided to move back home to Yorkshire 3 years ago, now I work from home for a small London based financial software company (18 of us). Our product is used around the world by a number of the worlds largest Asset managers.
In my limited spare time I dabble in home automation and am continually sighed at by the missus for buying gadgets 😉
August 31, 2013 at 10:30 #4845I’m an aerospace engineer and work in automotive research.
August 31, 2013 at 10:33 #4846I’m a lead software developer and Scrum Master for Names.co.uk in Worcester. I currently head up the new product development team where we mainly focus on integrating new products into company systems and the customer control panels. Most of our software is PHP based. The company also has a few open source projects that I work on with 2 other guys – nice that the company is happy with that 🙂
My background is computing, electrical engineering, psychology and artificial intelligence 🙂
August 31, 2013 at 11:11 #4848Ha, why am I not surprised that we’re all nerds? 🙂
August 31, 2013 at 12:12 #4850I’m a videographer, and also i work in a wildlife park. My wife is a photographer.
August 31, 2013 at 13:07 #4852@deejay: When I decided to go for a Zoe, I said to my wife: It’s time to be one of the first to do s.th. again. 🙂
It’s always the nerds who try new technology first.
The Zoe is a starter for mass compatible e-mobility – like my 14400 modem I used to connect to a bbs (long before dsl made Internet mass compatible), like my Handspring Treo Smartphone (long before iJobs made smartphones mass compatible)…tbc.
Regards
UmbiAugust 31, 2013 at 15:53 #4864Personally I prefer ‘geek’ to ‘nerd’!
I’m Chief Technology Officer of a software company in Milton Keynes working mostly on flight simulators for underwater vehicles.
It’s interesting to see the range of talent on the forum, not just tech but business related. I’m thinking there’s a niche in the market for a company that provides EVs to ‘everyone else’ – the USP being ‘fuel included’ or ‘free motoring’ (in extreme contrast to the common campaigns for ICE’s such as ‘Just Add Fuel’). If anyone here who also has experience business is interested, just let me know and we can talk it through.
