Unless I have it officially acknowledged by the insurer in writing then I wouldn’t be happy.
I would cover myself by documenting my understanding or what you were told be a staff member in an email and forward to them. Unless staff check with the underwriters they don’t know. They are call staff and not EV specialists
May 21, 2015 at 13:52 #18076I’ve just been told by Renault Insurance (brokers) that after speaking to Zenith the insurers, they will only cover the battery for market value, not the defined figure stated by RCI.
I have just filed a complaint to RCS as this is completely unacceptable for their recommended insurer.
May 21, 2015 at 18:49 #18091If the only place you can get them is from Renault, then surely market rate is what they say it is? 😀
May 22, 2015 at 16:22 #18140A few little nuggets from today:
Dealer tells me the battery price is £5,000 and the value of the car is therefore invoice price plus £5,000.
(The difference between a leased battery Zoe dynamique intens and the i-dynamique intens. Hard to believe. Spares/replacements always cost more.)Renault insurance automatically includes the battery.
The Renault Insurance call centre operative told me
a) they don’t have a figure for the value of the battery, and
b) I can’t insure a brand new car with them. Their system only goes up to 2014.I’m going to hide in a darkened room.
May 22, 2015 at 16:32 #18141I have to say that I found Renault Insurance pants to deal with when I got my Zoe and they took several months to actually give me a quote because of systems issues! The reality was that I wanted to go with them feeling there was a natural fit but it’s not good…and clearly still isn’t good.
Time to find another insurer eh? try Admiral – they have been smashing or another green insurer.
May 22, 2015 at 20:49 #18162Renault insurance weren’t insuring zoe’s when I bought mine. Lol
May 23, 2015 at 09:39 #18182It looks like we are going with Admiral, one thing to be aware of, they don’t offer new for old cover in year one, it is market value from the second you leave the dealer.
May 24, 2015 at 00:38 #18245I bought mine second hand (200 miles on) and NFU will replace it for new in the first 2 years.
May 27, 2015 at 17:50 #18545The NFU won’t insure our Zoe, it was declared an “unacceptable vehicle” at the end of the quotation process – because its electric!
May 27, 2015 at 18:31 #18547Hence why I suggest folk ask first question ie. if they deal with EV before going through personal details as they may be wasting their time.
