Eventually, after an intervention by the Renault ZE Customer service team we ended up with Renault Insurance for the car, which includes cover for the battery. Market value for the battery is whatever Renault say it is as defined in the lease schedule. We also have GAP insurance through Renault Insurance – different broker to the comprehensive insurance. Price is comparable with other quotes, and superficially its a slightly better package.
But the aggravation of getting through the Renault system is ridiculous. If you go through the normal Renault Insurance route you get a broker who knows nothing about ZE vehicles – not even the telephone number for the ZE insurance.
So why did we go with Renault Insurance? Simply because at 7 pm on Thursday evening we were told that if we didn’t pick the car up on Friday we would have to wait for a further two weeks because the ZE sales executive was going on holiday. (Does the dealer really only have one person capable of getting the agreements signed off and handing over the keys?) At that point we were still waiting for other insurers to come back to us confirming the battery cover.
Impressed with the car but not with the buying process.

June 13, 2015 at 20:33 #19542Hi Indi,
The drive-away insurance was never even mentioned by the dealer, probably because it wouldn’t cover the battery. To be honest, the information from the dealer had so often proved unreliable that I had ceased to trust them. Even now I’m waiting for a new set of lease & pcp documents to be signed because they got the first set wrong. I wasn’t prepared to take risks with their insurance, especially as they had already sold me the wrong GAP insurance, which they are now refunding. I await the cheque. As for the dealer organising anything, the car didn’t have number plates on, we only knew which was ours because the sold label had our name on it, the paperwork wasn’t ready and it took the best part of 3 hours to hand over without any instruction on how to operate any of the R-link system, which they have not activated.
June 14, 2015 at 12:53 #19559Oh dear! Bad organisation on dealer part from start to finish. For other new Zoe owners they should be offered/given 5 day drive-away insurance FOC.
June 14, 2015 at 13:17 #19565The irony is that we went to Gloucester because some friends of ours had had a bad repeatedly experience with the Bristol dealer (Renault Kangoo estate, not Zoe). Different dealership group but much the same it appears. Both take the same amount of time to get to in practice even though the Bristol dealer is closer.
Renault really do need to get their act together.
June 14, 2015 at 13:35 #19566It took me a while and considerable effort to find a Renault dealership that were interested in selling me a Zoe. I had to contact Renault customer services and complain and ask them how to test drive the Zoe last year having tried several dealers who had no idea or didn’t care or couldn’t see the point in electric vehicles! I was directed to Watford who were useless but we liked the car and then told to see London South West to seal the deal which we did and were good to deal with. No problems and the salesperson (Paul) was a gentleman.
Renault are a long way of in being able to market and sell this car properly. BMW were much more geared up to sell and know what they were doing. If the interior changes…might get that next time.

I’m also suffering what sounds a similar fate that you have been through with what looks like the same dealership.
shambolic, but I do like the car, suits our needs spot on. Just concerned about after sales service if buying is this poor……The latest is I had the grant stuff through to complete. It had delivery expected 30 sept. I queried that and was told that was so it would be new plate.
I couldn’t care less about that. Having originally been estimated June July at latest.they said the order date is mid august just presumed we would want new plate.
nope 2 years pcp then they can have it back so not a single care given for the plate is…June 14, 2015 at 17:27 #19571The estimated delivery date for the Zoe we collected on Friday was 22nd July 2015. This jumped forward to 1st June when Renault allocated the VIN to the order followed by a registration in the VE series (Severn Valley Worcester) being allocated and DVLA subsequently issued the V5c to us before we got the vehicle. If your vehicle is coming from the same Gloucester Renault outlet as mine then I recommend you establish a working relationship with Catherine Dexter of Renault ZE customer services. She knows how to make the system work, including the insurance with cover for the battery – not many seem to. Also, if you go for GAP insurance don’t take the dealer one.
If you want to contact me privately my email is fh007c9896@blueyonder.co.uk. I don’t think I can help but perhaps we can share experiences.
June 14, 2015 at 17:30 #19572fh007b9896@blueyonder is more likely to work. Sorry

The company our dealer uses for their drive-away insurance has changed provider to Allianz who will not cover a Zoe. So I had to rush insure last Friday morning. Admiral were the best quote I had.
