Recommend that you try the ‘Green Insurance Company’ https://www.greeninsurancecompany.co.uk/. They’re an intermediary but seem to understand the car and give good prices

I’ve been doing the rounds of insurers to try and get an indicative quote for me and my daughter (learner from October) for a Renault Zoe – as am thinking of ordering one for October

Admiral were helpful but Green Insurance company quoted £500 less (£900 as opposed to £1400 for us both). Direct Line and Renault insurance wouldn’t quote for a learner/inexperienced driver for the Zoe (presumably as they don’t understand/want the risk)

Green Insurance didn’t ask about the battery issue. Admiral said it wasn’t an issue as ‘threshold’ for insurance was £30k anyway. I’m not worrying too much about this (although Renault T&Cs do say (ridiculously in my view) that you need to arrange insurance yourself – but I’m taking the view that if an insurer covers you and they know what car it is, then they are covering it all). Not a show stopper for me

By the way – to follow up from previous post

You need to phone Green Insurance company up as Zoe doesn’t appear (daftly) on the pull down for their online quoter

    cheers

Just got a bit of a shock while trying to change our Saga insurance cover over to our Zoe Intens which arrives on Thursday to be told they “don’t insure electric vehicles” despite their web site giving a quote of £205 for the model. I have got a quote of £217 from Renault Insurance on 0800 5003108 as put up by a previous poster so have taken that out. Saga want to charge £50 to cancel the policy but I think I will fight this…anyone else had problem ?

Glad I spotted this. I have currently simply arranged to trasfer my existing insurance, with Aviva, to a Zoe. However I gave the insured value as £14500.00 Because that’s the invoice price. It makes sense to insure for the RRP of the car, however, in a writeoff scenario, I would expect a govt discount to apply to a replacement. So cost to the insurer would be £14,500. I’ll think on – rather be over than under insured and insuring a sum circa 20k should allow for the battery too.

I will call Aviva again and revert.

Green Insurance Company didn’t work for me. It quoted £455 which is £150 more than my renewal from Churchill and £300 more than the lowest quote from Compare the Market, with Sheila’s Wheels.

I got my insurance from Renault (£244) and they told me the battery was covered without me having to ask.
It just seemed good sense to go with them and avoid any doubt and they were loads cheaper than Aviva.:-)

Renault don’t insure electric cars anymore. Did every get cable liability covered on their policy?

    Hi,

I see that most of these posts are over a year old.

Have the problems, especially the ‘batteries not included’ issue been resolved now with the insurers?

I contacted my insurer, the AA to see about getting the policy changed to the new car – I’ve no delivery date yet, but its good to be prepared and the lady seemed to have a problem at first with the 0cc engine size, which didn’t bode well.

They’ll get back in 48 hours, but being pessimistic and assuming they’ll have a problem, can you end and insurance and transfer to another without risking no-claims. I assume I’d be stung for some sort of admin fee.

Having just taken delivery of my Zoe last Friday, I took out a new policy on Sunday with General Accident, the cover note that Renault gave me for 5 days didn’t cover commuting so I had to take out a new policy as I didn’t manage to sell the old car until Monday. I have 26 days to get the new insurers proof of No claims bonus. They reserve the right to charge me extra premium after 10 days if I can’t produce the no claims bonus certificate. The old insurer, Privilege won’t issue a proof of no claims bonus until they get the certificate of insurance back and then it will take them up to 2 weeks to do so! I’m sure I’m not insured once the phone call was made so why they need a bit of paper back I couldn’t work out. It’s annoyed me enough to dissuade me from insuring with them again If I can help it. They are charging me £47.70 to cancel the old policy which seems a bit excessive for a 5 minute telephone call and a couple of minutes work to transfer the remaining premium back into my account and put a print out into an envelope.

I asked about the battery and it’s covered by the insurance provided it hasn’t been removed from the car (e.g. removed by a garage). It is covered for theft from the car.

I took out gap insurance from Warranty Direct, for £177 for 3 years, significantly cheaper than the £399 that Renault quoted me.

Admiral have quoted me 186 quid, and I queried if that covers the battery and it does.

My existing policy providers, the AA won’t insure the Zoe so will cancel my policy without penalty. I can also have the old policy and new policy over lap to make sure I’m covered during the switch over.
